How to write a perfect title that gets you clicks!

How to write better titles for your content is not an exact science.

It’s not even something that was invented by social media platforms of even google.

In fact the art of writing the “perfect” title was created by online marketers like you and I who needed to set themselves apart from their competition. It is not only process in constant motion but also a labor of love.

How to write the perfect title

In fact the art of writing the “perfect” title was created by online marketers like you and I who needed to set themselves apart from their competition. It is not only process in constant motion but also a labor of love.

Indeed, in a world increasingly open to an ever expanding market of really innovative creators, it is becoming more and more important to set ourselves apart from everybody else, and one way we can do that is by writing better titles for our content.

Caveat: For the purpose of this article, I am making the following assumptions:

Title – Headlines – Captions – Hooks refer to the same thing. A mechanism designed to

a. draw the attention of the reader
b. capture their attention
and finally
c. lead to a call to action

The first tip is to not use insider language (tech lingo) that you might say when talking about a hobby or passion that will just fly over a beginners head.

For example, if you are writing about cameras, do not say anything about “shallow depth of field” as this might pass right through people who might not know what that means.

Say instead: “How to take a photo of your dog where he is in focus and everything behind him is out of focus and blurry”.

Now, who doesn’t want to see their beautiful poochie in their gorgeous glory, against a backdrop that adds to the beauty instead of becoming part of the picture?

That is a language that all beginners will understand. Indeed, using language for beginners is very important when writing your titles.

When writing titles, always remember the following two pieces of advice by the folks at Think Media:

  • If you confuse, you lose
  • Write for a fifth-grade reading level

Simplify your title, make it easier to read and easier to understand.

And remember, when it comes to titles, shorter is better, and even if you dispute that assertion, or really need a longer title, always make sure that the words you are targeting are at upfront.

Here’s something my team and I have been doing over the past few years when writing the content for our websites.

  2. And another
  3. And several more
  4. Choose the best one
  5. Write your content according to the chosen title.

Instagram Captions

Instagram has become one the world’s most popular social media plaformed. In it’s infancy it was meant as a platform where one might upload personal images and photographs, but has now morphed into a business friendly plaform with over a billion users.

If you are not using instagram to promote your services, then you are leaving a lot of money on the table.

Instagram captions are the headlines that sit right underneat the image and play a crucial role in helping you build and grow your business as an online marketer. Caption hooks can work wonders, particularly as you grow your audience.

Whether you are a content marketer, a video creator, whether you operate your businesses on traditional websites, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or any of the other social media platforms, the principle of how to write a perfect caption that gets you click are the same.

Make your caption interesting, and provided you have followers that are interested in what you have to offer, your audience will actually want to stop the scroll and read what you have to say.
